Welcome to C3SE!

C3SE is a center for scientific and technical computing at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg Sweden. C3SE is one of six centers in the national metacenter Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing:SNIC logo.

Information related to the unplanned stop

  • Svea. Is available
  • Beda. Is available
  • Live queue status and compute node status information is available again.

Current events

2012-01-16 to 2012-03-09 C3SE Graduate student course: Python and High Performance Computing for information and registration see the Course Page
2011-12-24: Unplanned stop.

Most of our systems were shut down early today due to a software error in the server room cooling system.

Upcoming events

2011-11-16: PRACE: Call for proposals to access European supercomputers now open. The PRACE Research Infrastructure now invites applications for access to high-end computing resources (Tier-0 and Tier-1). Full information is available here. C3SE can provide assistance in preparing proposals. Please contact C3SE support for more information. Deadline for proposals is January 10, 2012.

Past events

2011-12-12 to 2011-12-13 Full systems stop! Beda and Svea will be stopped for maintenance on the 12th and 13th December, no jobs will be allowed to run.
2011-11-28: Due to power-failures on the evening of the 27th, the systems were down or unable to start jobs. Beda was up at lunch-time, and Svea in the afternoon of the 29th.
2011-10-10:Center storage, planned maintenance stop. Due to a required upgrade of our center storage ($SNIC_BACKUP, $SNIC_NOBACKUP and private areas), it will be unavailable during Monday the 10th. The upgrade will address some software bugs, and is also a prerequisite for future fixes. Further information about available storage areas can be found here.
2011-09-05: The National Graduate School in Scientific Computing (NGSSC) will give the course Computational Methods in Statistics with Applications. The course is open to all PhD students in Swedish Academia. For further info see the course page.
2011-09-06: svea, the Svea front-end was rebooted for updates.
2011-07-25:Problem with C3SE's server room infrastructure has caused a disruption on our compute resources.

A problem with the cooling system forced us to shut down almost all servers in our computer rooms.

2011-05-21: Unplanned shutdown! Due to a triggered fire alarm many of C3SE:s resources were shutdown late last night, 2011-04-20. Most or all running jobs on Beda were unfortunately lost due to this. Beda and the center storage were affected while Svea was not affected. All systems back in normal production again.
2011-05-11: SGUSI Invites all SNIC and SweGrid users to participate in the "ARC User School" tutorial at NorduGrid 2011. More information about this event can be found here.
2011-05-09: The annual NorduGrid conference will take place between the 9:th and 12:th of May at Sundvolden Hotel in Norway. More information about and registration to NorduGrid 2011 can be found here.
2011-05-04: How to use Matlab efficient in a HPC environment. This is the fourth part of four in the C3SE spring 2011 seminar series will take place at 10:00 in room Pascal, Hörsalsvägen 1, in the Mathematics building. The slides are available for download.
2011-04-20: Learn how to get the most out of using Bash for scripting and interactive work on our resources. This is the third part of four in the C3SE spring 2011 seminar series will take place at 10:00 in room Pascal, Hörsalsvägen 1, in the Mathematics building. The slides are available for download.
2011-04-06: The second part of four in the C3SE spring 2011 seminar series took place at 10:00 in room Pascal, Hörsalsvägen 1, in the Mathematics building. The slides from the seminar can be found here.
2011-03-23: The first part of four in the C3SE spring 2011 seminar series took place at 10:00 in room Pascal, Hörsalsvägen 1, in the Mathematics building. The slides from the seminar can be found here.
2011-03-22: Beda was down for hardware maintenance and had some of its power distribution units replaced.
2011-03-16: C3SE hosted a 3 day MPI course. Lecturer was Joachim Hein, SNIC parallel expert, from LUNARC. Further information about the course can be found here.
2011-02-02: Svea is online and back in production.
2011-02-01: There was a service stop on Svea. All services on and all access to Svea was down during Tuesday 2011-02-01.
2011-01-20: All web services are working normally again.
2011-01-19: One of our web servers went down due to a disk failure. We expect it to be back in production tomorrow (Thursday 20/1). Until it has been fixed the Current queue status and Current health status pages will be unavailable.
2011-01-17: The Ada front end ada.c3se.chalmers.se was shut down permanently.
